My Springtime Sojourn

Today, I celebrate the first day of spring, which is formally known as the Vernal Equinox! In technical terms, it’s when the sun crosses the celestial equator, marking the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. In simple terms, it’s when day and night are nearly equal in length!
This is the time of year when daylight hours will become longer, and nightime hours will become shorter! And temperatures will be warming up, which means I get to swim again (my favorite pastime ever)!
This is the time of year when my canine sister, Juno, sheds her fluffy coat of fur! It’s more like a molting, actually! After she gets brushed out, she blows enough of her hair to make a new dog!
This is the time of year when my feline brother, Miso, loves to be outside! To his dismay, my mommy and daddy make him wear a harness to ensure he doesn’t wander off. But he still manages to enjoy himself in the great outdoors, stopping to smell the lilacs . . . while Juno is on the other side of the property smelling the magnolias!
This is the time of year when nature gives birth to the next generation! From squirrels to deer to birds to foxes – and all wild creatures in between – the circle of life begins again in the springtime!
This is the time of year to enjoy being outside.
It’s when my daddy spends time in his organic garden again – even though Juno and I would rather he spend time with us! He plants all sorts of fruits and vegetables – from strawberries and blueberries to kohlrabi, string beans, and zucchini! Yum!
It's also when my mommy gets to be one with nature again – even though Juno and I would rather she be one with us! She just loves to be in the woods, listening to the sounds of the forest and watching the wildlife, including the Apple Herd in our own backyard!
For me? This is the time of year when I enjoy playing in the cool springtime waters! There’s nothing more exhilarating than being in a lake or a river. When the temperatures hit 70 degrees (or even when they’re in the 60s), I get to do what I love the most – swim!
This is the time of year to celebrate new beginnings! So, I invite you to join me on my springtime sojourn and let me know how you are enjoying the season!
